The History Of Westchester

The history of Westchester goes back to February 3, 1883 when 16 Swedish Christians first began to meet together and formed a church called the Swedish Mission Church. The church transitioned to became Des Moines Evangelical Free Church and in 1950 relocated to the Highland Park area, changing the name to the Highland Park Evangelical Free Church.

The church continued to grow and in February of 1971 moved to the current location, changing the name to Westchester Evangelical Free Church. Additional facilities were added in 1992 to accommodate the additional growth and outreach of the church.

Jesus said “I will build my church, and the gates of Hell will not overcome it.” (Matthew 16:18) Throughout the many years of growth and change, those associated with Westchester have sought to glorify Jesus Christ and faithfully build His church.
