Missions Overview

Westchester is not a church with a missions program; it is a church with a mission. Our mission is to make disciples all over this world. “Missions” is at the heart and soul of all we are and all we do.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE FOR WESTCHESTER MISSIONS

To glorify our Lord by fulfilling the commission given to us by Him, that is the making of disciples both here and all over the world. We believe the local church exists for exaltation, edification and evangelization.

The three objectives of our church are to win, build and send. We feel God’s calling upon our church is to:

win people to Christ,

build them up in the faith, and

then to send them into ministry – here at home or around the world.

We envision Westchester being a church engaged in equipping, encouraging, supporting and sending out missionaries. This missionary “thrust” is interwoven into all we do at Westchester.

AN OVERVIEW OF THE WESTCHESTER MISSIONS MINISTRY

We operate on the philosophy that the Great Commission has been given to every believer. Therefore, each believer has a part to play in fulfilling the Great Commission.

Short-term Missionary Trips – The purpose of the short-term missionary trip is to stimulate our congregation in the area of missions and to gain missions experience. We carefully plan our short-term trips, being sure to include some measurable project. It is our goal to return with some ”achievable” result.

We also want to be a blessing and encouragement to the missionaries we visit. Of course, our prayer is that we return more zealous, more burdened and more concerned to pray, give and get involved.

We believe that God will continually call missionaries to the field for long-term commitments as a result of short-term trips. Prior to each short-term group leaving, we will hold a Commissioning Service where we commission and pray for those getting ready to depart.

Upon their return home, we encourage each team or individual share their experiences with their ABF/Church Body.
